Wrights have been developing their brand for a number of years.  In the most recent years they have diversified and grown into a company that, in addition to the traditional material supplier role, can really support dentists and practices in maintaining equipment, training and providing sundry supplies.

Neal Drummond (Torwood Dental Practice, Inverness), in his role as chairperson of the HDP Group Purchasing Committee, interviews Fiona Anderson (Wrights sales rep) to find out what she sees as the commitment of Wrights to providing a superior service to HDP members. 

Fiona, you’re the rep for the North of Scotland.  How long have you been in the role? Before you worked for Wrights, what was you background?  How did you get into dentistry?

    I began my career in Dentistry in January 1991, in a small practice in Coupar Angus where I lived.  The practice was owned by Wendy McCombes, who will be well known to many dentists in HDP.

    I really enjoyed my time in surgery, but also working at the reception desk, meeting and greeting the patients and dealing with the day to day organisation of the practice.

    It was during this time, when we had many visits from sales representatives from various companies calling and promoting their products, that I felt that was an area that one day I would like to be involved in.

    I joined Wright’s in April 1998 as a Customer Service Advisor.  At that point, there were 4 of us employed in the department, today Wright’s have 17 Customer Service Advisors with 9 based in Dundee.

    I became Supervisor in the Department in and then the opportunity arose to join Schulke in 2005.

    This was a challenge for me, as there was lots of new legalisation/regulations being made at that time and customers were confused with so many different rules being applied regarding Infection Control.

    I was with Schulke for over 2 years, and found the experience very worthwhile, as I was educating practices on all aspects of cross Infection, and this usually involved Lunch & learn Meetings, where staff had more time to communicate and ask questions.

    I then joined Ivoclar as a Product Specialist for Clinical Products, covering Scotland, before the position I have now at Wright’s became vacant and I had no hesitation returning to retail sales which I thoroughly enjoy.

    You can often be seen in practices bringing us special promotions and deals by Wrights.  What other support/services can you provide to HDP practices?

    When I am visiting the HDP practices I look at your order history before I come in and mention any promotions that are available for you from our recent flyers. I also mention CPD courses that can be brought to your practice, the Septodont lunch and learn has been very popular. We now have a fully functioning Handpiece Repair Centre where we have factory trained technical experts in repairing Kavo, NSK and W&H handpieces.

    We only use genuine parts and provide prepaid Handpiece repair jiffy bags.

    Wrights also works in partnership with various manufacturers and companies, such as G&H Orthodontics, Planmeca, Dentally and more, to ensure you get great deals on various quality services, equipment and products.

    Wrights have a price matching policy.  Can you explain which products this relates to and how practices can get the best deals through Wrights? 

    We promise to price match with any nationally advertised dental dealer on all identical consumables, sundries and materials and regularly offer web only deals, discounts and seasonal flyers with exclusive promotions. Plus, we offer an online offer of 2% and free next day delivery on all orders regardless of the value or size, giving you additional savings on already superb prices.

    With specific reference to HDP practices, how does the preferred supplier status benefit members?

      With Wrights being the preferred supplier all practice get 25% off own brand products, 20% off branded products and an additional discount for on line orders using “My Wright Place”. Reduced charge-out rates for engineers. We also have our engineer Kevin, who covers the Inverness area. 5% rebate on all sundries and handpiece repairs is given back to HDP to cover administration fees.

      The next CPD courses are Friday 13th May, 'Oral Medicine for the Primary Care Practitioner’ at the Kingsmill Hotel and also at the Kingsmill on 2nd June, Periodontal survival course for the busy general practice'. We have our big Highland Dental Show in Inverness on 9th September where we have over 20 wholesalers presenting their products. This event was last held in 2014 and was a great success.

      Wrights have been supportive in training as well – can you let the readers know about any upcoming CPD events to watch out for?

        Budapest – we are busy putting together arrangements for a trip to Budapest.  We hope it will be within the next year with a visit to Wrights tooth factory, a CPD course from GC and some great trips and restaurants to visit.

        In supporting Wrights by using them as our main supplier, HDP members and their practices can get the best deals and offers on the market.  HDP also receives a rebate which goes towards HDP being able to refund our admin fees – a unique situation which is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain.
