The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the most important change in data privacy regulation in 20 years—are you prepared?
Educational Aims & Objectives
This session is aimed at General Dental Practitioners and Practice Managers and will ensure delegates are aware of the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). An MDDUS risk adviser will offer guidance on the key changes and requirements—such as in subject access requests, breach reporting and privacy impact assessments—along with tips on how practices can demonstrate compliance across the range of these.
The course will cover an introduction to the new GDPR and what this means for dental practices after May 2018. This will include:
- The revised data protection principles and how to demonstrate accountability
- Lawful processing
- Subject access requests
- Breach reporting requirements
- Privacy by design
- Privacy notices
Anticipated Learning Outcomes:
- Describe the requirements of the new GDPR and what this means in practice
- Understand the elements of work and changes to current policies, that will be required to meet the regulations
- Create an action plan that, when completed, will demonstrate compliance with the regulations.

Lindsey Falconer- BA HRM MIHM
Lindsey has worked in the health sector since 1998, initially with the RCGP and then as a practice manager for 16 years in Glasgow and Lanarkshire. During her time as a practice manager, Lindsey took on a supportive role to help practices improve and develop their systems. She spent six years as a trainer and marker on the NHS Education for Scotland (NES) Practice Managers Vocational Training Scheme (PMVTS) mentoring new managers in both the practical and theoretical areas of practice management.
The event will take place on Tuesday 26th June 2018, 1.30pm - 3.30pm (2 hours CPD) at Macleod Suite, Kingsmills Hotel, Inverness
